Last year, in June 2019, Baljaa Chinzorigt from Mongolia was one of the delegates of the “New Generation” program who visited the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). She got a chance to present her own project at the first-ever “Friends for Leadership” event and meet with state officials and experts present at the forum. In an interview, she recalled her memories about the trip to Russia and explained how her project has evolved since then.
“It was my pleasure to participate in the ‘New Generation’ as one of the 42 delegates from over 30 countries and take part in the ‘Friends for Leadership’ session within the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum,” the participant from Mongolia says. “Throughout the forum, we had a chance to discuss the current international youth agenda and presented our initiatives in different fields.”
At last year’s “Friends for Leadership” event, Baljaa presented her “Bridging the Gap” project which now has grown into “Youth Inc.” organization that works to address the skills mismatch and connect the youth with prospective employers.
“The goal is to do it by increasing professional competencies of the youth and acquire needed skills in real working conditions. Thus, allowing the youth to enter the labor market prepared and assist them in the future,” she explains. “Currently, YOUTH INC. Brand New Office & Development Center in Mongolia is under construction and will be launching very soon!”
According to Baljaa, the project has already attracted international interest. It was presented at the UN Headquarters in New York, International Labor Conference in Geneva, and the Global Youth Employment Forum in Nigeria. “This year, we have also contributed to a research project of the Maastricht University of the Netherlands commissioned by DECP (Dutch Employers Cooperation Programme) on bridging the skills gap,” she adds.
The graduate of the “New Generation” program has warm memories about her trip to St. Petersburg. Apart from the formal program and making new friends, Baljaa also enjoyed an opportunity to see a new city.
“On the very first day of the forum, we participated in the SPIEF Race which encouraged all of us and promoted healthy lifestyle!,” she remembers. “We also got a chance to see St. Petersburg's world-famous State Hermitage Museum, the ‘White Nights’ in St. Petersburg, enjoyed a Neva river cruise, and watched the one and only Andrea Bocelli concert, which were all amazing and unforgettable moments in my life! Therefore, when I have a chance, I’d love to revisit St. Petersburg and see other parts of beautiful Russia!”
