Internship Pilot 4 — Decent Work
July–December 2022 with the ILO: 24 marketing and media interns ran the “Work should be… decent” youth labour-rights campaign, study tours for 200+ young people, and peer knowledge-sharing.

About the program
The fourth and final pilot ran from 21 July to 24 December 2022, and was the first with an international partner: together with the ILO, the interns delivered the youth labour-rights campaign “Work should be… decent”. More than 100 young people applied, 50 were interviewed, and 24 were selected for marketing and media roles.
Graduates of the earlier pilots ran it: U. Nomunaa (Pilot 2) as general coordinator, B. Dulamsuren (Pilot 1) as media lead and B. Uranchimeg (Pilot 3) as marketing lead, with marketing professional A. Otgonbaatar reviewing every weekly task. Fifteen interns completed the five months and received certificates at the graduation on 24 December 2022.

Three seasons
- Season 1 — the campaign: three teams took weekly tasks on decent work, producing posters, short videos, comics and infographics, researching topics like unfair pay and age in career choice, and joining the “17 Sustainable Development Goals” day on 10 September 2022 for Goal 8
- Season 2 — study tours, October–December 2022: the interns organised visits to Talkh Chikher, APU Dairy, APU Company, the UN and its agencies in Mongolia (FAO, IOM, ILO, UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, WHO) and the ITTLLDC — planned for 150 young people, 600+ registered and 200+ took part
- Season 3 — peer-to-peer knowledge sharing: each intern taught a session on a topic of their choice at the Sunday meetings, wrote a blog on it, and reported on their work for graduation

In the interns' words
Interns wrote up what they learned — teamwork after a first presentation that showed a team had divided tasks without talking, social marketing and campaign skills from a medical student who joined to widen her circle beyond medicine, and one honest reflection on falling behind and what responsibility means. Those posts are linked below.
In participants' words
The Study Tour at UN Generation Unlimited was one of the most instructive moments of my life — it taught me to commit to something from the bottom of my heart.
Make Mongolia Great Again! All hail Baljaa egch
Throughout the program, the interns encountered various challenges. During the first season, we were able to learn how to work as a team, take part in marketing lessons, and promote the SDGs. Before joining the program, I had no idea what decent work was. In the second season, I had a chance to work as a coordinator of this program and we organized a study tour for young people. The participants visited various organizations and companies, and they were able to visit UN Mongolia and UN Agencies. It was an exciting opportunity for the youth, who have always wanted to know how international organizations work. In the program's last season, the interns organized a knowledge sharing session. These lessons were quite intriguing and gave me a deeper understanding about different topics. In addition to writing blogs, I was also able to improve my skills in organizing and knowing how to work efficiently. Thanks to YOUTHinc for making my days better in 2022.
Participating in YOUTHinc Intership Pilot 4 was the most valuable learning experience of the program, meeting friends from multiple industries, sharing knowledge, and learning from each other. Improved hard and soft skills through teamwork. I learned the most that you need to be passionate about everything, no matter how big or small.
During my 5-month internship, I was able to spend every month interestingly and productively. I also learned a lot from other trainees. I learned from one participant that persistence is a huge advantage. Although there were times when I felt discouraged and didn't want to do anything, I pushed myself a little and was able to finish this program. After all that, what I have left is a lot of knowledge and skills. Thank you to my teammates and other teams that were competitors.
The most significant takeaway from my participation in this program was the importance of planning and responsibility. The weekly meetings were meticulously organized, which taught me the value of time management and the consequences of being late. The opportunity to not only study youth employment rights but also visit three organizations and witness the daily operations firsthand was invaluable. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn about the soft and hard skills required in a professional setting and realize the rarity of such opportunities. The individuals I met through this program were incredibly valuable and enlightening. I am confident that the relationships I formed with my fellow interns will be long-lasting. I would also like to express my gratitude to my sister Baljaa, who founded and implemented the program. The entire experience was one of the most meaningful months of my life and helped me gain a deeper understanding of various aspects of life.
As everyone goes somewhere to learn or improve something, one of the good skills that I learned from this program was marketing. However, I am happy to have learned, and more importantly, the ability to work with different peers and become more responsible for what I say to myself and others is precious. I still miss the 10 o'clock meeting... Thank you all!
